Canine Morphology: Hunting for Genes and Tracking Mutations
ScienceDaily (Mar. 3, 2010) — Why do domestic dogs vary so much in size,
shape, coat texture, color and patterning? Study of the dog genome has reached
a point where the molecular mechanisms governing such variation across
mammalian species are becoming understood.
Just added some new photos of the Trooper x Beach puppies. Can’t believe that they are now 7 weeks old. They are a bunch of active, confident and cute blond puppies. There are still 3 males available looking for homes.
Great weekend for the younger dogs and a great way to start the New Year off with some agility at BARK agilities USDAA trial.
On Friday, Zer, Hatrick and Trey all competed on their very first USDAA DAM team together, AKA the “Flyte” Line.” This was Trey’s very first USDAA trial and only his third trial. They did great! Although there were a few bobbles here and there they pulled out a Q!! They finished up as the 15th team to qualify out of the 24 teams that qualified.
Way to go baby dogs….

Nikon continued to prove his consistency and speed by helping his teammates a Sheltie (Sparks) and a JRT (Pochi) to qualify and to place 2nd overall earning this a “silver” medal. This makes his fourth Team Q and his second placement.
Nikon and Zer placed individually in a couple of the team classes as well
TEAM Jumpers — Nikon 2nd, Zer 5th
TEAM Snooker — Zer 2nd, Nikon 6th (he did not get the last 7 since I fell on my butt!!)
TEAM Standard — Nikon 2nd
Then on Saturday during the snow storm Trey and “Hattie” ran in their regular classes and did very well too. Trey qualified with first placements in his starters/novice Snooker and Jumpers classes. He then earned a Q in his starters Gamblers class as well. Hattie Q’d in Advanced jumpers and then Q’d with a third place in advanced standard.
Pine Run Life’s A Beach (Echo x Flyte), “Beach” whelped eight healthy puppies, 7 boys and 1 girls…Oh My!! This is a lovely breeding between Beach and Trooper (Neversink’s Road To Belvedere **), that should produce nice looking multi-purpose Goldens.
This litter was bred by Gerry Clinchy, for more information, photos and more click here.
Zer and Grace earned their first double Q, which also turned out to be their first double. Zer also earned his Open FAST title with 2 legs and 2 placements. On Sunday he Q’d in standard but had one minor off course in jumps. They are developing into a great team.
Trey earned his first two Novice Standard legs both with placements and he finished off his Nov JWW title being handled by Kris, also with placements. He’s looking good and pretty fast considering we have not yet asked for speed.
Nikon continued his winning ways…earning 2 more QQs (sitting at 9 now for MACH 4) on Saturday and Sunday including another double placement on Sunday (3rd & 4th). He also Q’d in Standard in Friday and then Jumpers on Monday.
Snapshot had a good weekend even if our Q’ing rate was lower then usual since we double Q’d on Saturday with double placements but it was also a double title since we earned our MX and MXJ. On Friday although she did not Q (popped pole in Standard and a dropped bar in Jumpers) sher BEAT Nikon’s times even jumping in the 26″ class while he was running in the 24″ class!! Her times the rest of the weekend were not as good but it should her potential. She did also earn a jumpers leg on Sunday with a first place. She came 34 points short of qualifying for the 2010 AKC agility nationals. Too bad next year!!
Overall
Flyte was probably the most consistent over the weekend…qualifying in Jumpers on Friday to finished her AXJ title with Kris earning all three legs !!! Wahoo. By earning her AXJ title Flyte helped her sire Marley complete the requirements for his Outstanding Sire title (OS). Since we forgot to move her up for Saturday Flyte still ran in Ex A Jumpers but earned a bumper leg adn was just out of the placements. Flyte and Kris then went on to earn Flyte first two MXJ legs. She also earned her first AX leg as well.
Zer and Grace had a great weekend earning 2 Q’s in Ex A Jumpers and finishing off his AXJ title. Then on sunday he also earned another MX leg.
November 1, 2009 — With all the “family” gathered for the Hudson Valley Golden Retriever Club’s all Golden Agility trial it was the perfect time to get a “family” photo. It was supposed to be Flyte and her “kids” but we also threw in Uncle Nikon for the fun.
